Workshop 3: Internet Trend Analysis and Applications
Hong Kong's internet has been rapidly evolving since the 1990s, with technological advancements condensing what was once a 10-year cycle into 5-year and even 3-year cycles. We have seen transitions from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0, from desktop to mobile, from Yahoo to Google, from Apple News to YouTube, and from public to private social networking.
Looking to the future, several important questions arise: Where will the next wave of high traffic come from? What opportunities exist for increased content exposure? How is HK01 preparing for these changes? Can AI be relied upon, and could AI-created content become a trend? What potential opportunities and risks lie ahead? Also, which platforms are likely to fail, and which media platforms might disappear over time?
Outline:
Learning Outcomes:
This course provides an in-depth exploration of the rapidly evolving internet landscape in Hong Kong, from the early Web 1.0 era to the current mobile-centric Web 2.0 environment. Participants will analyze key trends and transformations, such as the rise and fall of platforms, content formats, and social media models, as well as the accelerating pace of technological change. They will also examine emerging "super traffic" channels, content exposure growth opportunities, and the impact of AI-generated content. By developing a framework for anticipating platform decline, participants will gain the skills to navigate the dynamic Hong Kong digital ecosystem and identify emerging trends.
